Admission requirements for Foreign Students
  • PublishedJuly 12, 2023

When students are aware of the application process they need to follow, applying to a college in India is simple and stress-free. The admission requirements for foreign students in India can vary slightly depending on the university, and specific program of study. The process for applying will be relatively easy because the acceptance procedures at most educational institutions are precisely the same.

  • International students are eligible for admission directly to the university for a wide range of programs in India.

  • Through the DASA (Direct Admission of Students Abroad) Scheme, students interested in enrolling in engineering, architecture, or planning study programs at the National Institutes of Technology and centrally enabled institutions may submit an application.

  • To study in India, students from other countries need to get a visa. Student visas can be issued for up to five years, or for whatever period of the degree programme.  Applicants must have a letter of acceptance from an Indian university in addition to further supporting papers, including a passport with at least six months of remaining validity, in order to apply for a visa.

  • The applicant must provide confirmation of their English proficiency in order to apply for educational programs in India.
  • The following qualifications are generally accepted by Indian universities:
  1. PTE Academic
  2. TOEFL
  3. IELTS
  4. C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency
  • Students must have passed their 10+2 exam from a board with accreditation or an exam that is equivalent.
  • Some institutions need applicants to pass entrance exams in order to enroll in an educational program. After the admission test, a group discussion and personal interviews will take place. From one institution to another, it differs.
  • Some schools and universities upload a cut-off list that applicants must satisfy in order to be approved. They are admitted if the final percentage is equal to the released cut-off points.
